If you’re as obsessed with unique and simple jewelry as we are (less is always more, n’est ce pas?) then we know you’ve already fallen in love with Aurélie Damedey’s creations. Originally from Avignon, her brand Dame D is known for geometric designs and incorporating leather in creative ways. We spoke with the 28-year-old designer and here’s what she had to share.

Q: When did you start making jewelry and how did you realize you wanted to start your own brand?

DD: I started four years ago. It sounds quite cliché but I’ve been obsessed with jewelry and accessories since I can remember. Suddenly I realized how important this passion was to me so I started my own line. I wasn’t sure at first, but with the help of family I was able to overcome all those beginner challenges, and it was the best choice I’ve ever made!

Q: What inspires your designs?

DD: Mainly home décor. I’m a big fan of Scandinavian style, with all those soft and cozy vibes, so that’s also a big inspiration for me.

Q: Your jewelry is so unique. How did you come up with the idea of using leather?

DD: While I was working on my clutches I realized what a noble material leather is, and I was convinced that mixing it could help embellish my other pieces. I gave it a try and ended up creating jewelry with it. I’m really happy with the result!

Q: The triangle pattern seems to be in a lot of your designs. Do they hold a special meaning for you?

DD: They symbolize balance, so I like to think they create a sense of harmony in my creations.

Q: When you’re not designing jewelry and bags, what other things do you enjoy?

DD: Hanging out with my friends is really important to me. I also like customizing and remodeling furniture, giving them a new lease of life.

Q: What are some of your favorite places to go in Paris?

DD: Wandering in the Marais is one of my favorite activities. So much to see… and all those amazing boutiques!
